ICA Community Bulletin

Student buddies are highly valued members of the ICA student community, who generously donate their time in assisting newbies with finding their way within and around the ICA community.  As students that have already been with ICA for some time would know, this can sometimes be a little daunting to begin with.  Being a buddy could involve sharing first hand experiences, or assisting new students to connect with their online community.

Whilst being a buddy does involve a time commitment, it is very flexible and should only involve a few hours a month.  Students wishing to become a part of our wonderful buddy team, should be familiar with the ICA environment,  and be willing to support our new students.

****Important change to Book Club meetings****

Effective immediately Book Club meetings will now be held every other month, with the next meeting scheduled for September 29. This is to allow more time for readers to complete the book.

Alumni and new coaches alike, are welcome to join us as we discuss this meeting’s book titled:

‘ Finding Your Own North Star: Claiming the Life You Were Meant to Live ‘ by Martha Beck (As seen on Oprah)

This is a great chance to add ideas and concepts to your education and growing coaching practice. Our book choices are selected to inspire and support.

As you already know, we have a fabulous program at ICA, called the Buddy Program.  ICA Buddies are students of ICA who have volunteered to assist new students as they get started, navigate the ICA system, and stay connected.

Beginning last month, we added an extra feature to the Buddy Program, a monthly Student Information call that is facilitated by members of our Buddy team.  These calls are available to any student who has questions.  Just jump in and ask!

Our next Student Information call will be held on:

August 18, 6pm NY ET. 
September 15, 6pm NY ET.
October 20, 6pm NY ET.

ICA would like to extend a warm welcome to Sherry Read, Michael Moniz and Kathy Munoz, as the newest members to join our Training Team.

Sherry and Michael will be taking regular classes, whilst Kathy will be taking on the role of backup trainer, stepping in to fill in where needed.

Please join us in welcoming them, as you meet them in the corridors of ICA. Please take the time to read their profiles below and learn a little about them.

It is at this time that we would also like to farewell two members of our training team. Jim Clarkson and Lou D’Alo have been valued members of the ICA training team and leave us to pursue their coaching professions outside of ICA. Thanks Jim and Lou!!

Our second round of Supervised Coach for the year, began this week on Monday 4th August.  We had over 150 students register, and are now taking part in one of 28 different time and day options that were available.  We are sure all of the students participating, will find Supervised Coach, an amazing and rewarding part of their ICA journey.

ICA would like to warmly welcome, Prabha Chandrasekar to our training team.  Prabha is a graduate of ICA and will be a valuable addition to our training team.  Prabha will be taking on two of Linda Anderson’s classes whilst Linda is on maternity leave and will also take over, AC200 | Time Option 1 | Wed 10pm, currently facilitated by Merci Miglino.  Please join us in welcoming Prabha.

We would also like to take this opportunity to farewell two members of our training team.  Meg Montford and Ton de Graaf.  Both Meg and Ton leave us to pursue their coaching careers outside of ICA.  We thank both Meg and Ton for their valuable contributions and wish them well in their future endeavours.

Laurene Vaughan, PhD and Research Paper assessor at ICA, hosted a very successful and highly attended information call in February 2008, providing information and answering questions regarding all aspects of the Research Paper assessment task. For those students who were unable to attend, the call was recorded and is now available for listening by clicking –>  here

Imagine a web-based Professional Coach Game similar to the Sims where you can be client or coach, change events and situations, try on different questions or approaches and see the coaching process at work. All based on your choices!

Low and behold, there are such games in the works.  Check it out!  Gaming company Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot said, “The timing is right for us to leverage our creativity and to open up the video games market to new consumers who will be attracted by content that can help them learn, grow and feel better in an entertaining way.”

Because there has been some confusion about the timeline for graduation, we wanted to reiterate our policy. All ICA students have 2 years from the date of enrollment, to complete the ICA Program. If during this time any student feels that they are unable to complete the program within this time frame, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@icoachacademy.com

Effective July 1, 2008, those applying for the ACC credential, by submitting a portfolio application, will be required to document 10 hours of work with a qualified mentor coach.

ICA student Elizabeth Abbot who resides in Rome, Italy is conducting a 90 minute workshop at the SIETAR conference (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) in late October in Granada, Spain entitled, “Cross-Cultural Coaching : Making the Training Stick”. http://www.sietarglobal2008.org

As part of the workshop, she would like to do a sample, 15 minute coaching session. If there is anyone from ICA that will be attending and would like to role-play live with Elizabeth as part of this workshop, please let her know. It would be a great way to support another student and to show up as a coach during the conference.

It was celebration time recently at ICA, with our graduation students coming together for two wonderful graduation ceremonies. 

Our graduates enjoyed a party atmosphere as they joined thier peers, family, friends and ICA staff, and celebrated their wonderful achievement.

As of June 1st Merci Miglino will serve as Interim Training Manager as well as Assessment Co-ordinator and Teleclass Trainer. Merci is an alumna of ICA and has been a trainer with ICA since 2005. Merci is reaching out to staff and students to bring their perspective and feedback to our learning environment. Karen Cappello is now focusing on teaching in CPCP and supervised coaching as well as supporting students and working with Jamee and the buddies.

Beginning in September 2008, ICA will launch a Chinese CPCP (Certified Professional Coach Program), to Chinese speaking coaches, from mainland China as well as Chinese speaking coaches living overseas. 

“The program will be identical to our English program in every single aspect, except it will be conducted in Chinese putonghua language.  For the existing ICA Chinese speaking coaches, this means that you can now choose to post your learning to the Chinese learning site, and conduct your peer coaching and supervised coaching in Chinese.  To the mainland Chinese or the overseas Chinese, this will be one of the first internationally accredited coach training programs for Chinese speaking coaches,” said Bronwyn Bowery-Ireland.

“China is experiencing unprecedented business, social and economic growth, where the ability to maximize human potential will be crucial to China’s sustainable development.  We are proud to be offering this coach training program, to prepare coaches, to help their clients master their personal and business success and the opportunities that lay ahead for them,” added Bronwyn Bowery-Ireland.

To encourage early enrolment between June and September, we are offering an Early Bird fee reduction and a no-interest payment benefit.  In addition to that, we are offering a Tuition Waiver Scheme, which could save applicants an amount of USD$800.00, or 40% of the total tuition.  We wish to attract the best prepared and qualified persons from mainland Chinese residents, living in a non-coastal city of China, or other overseas Chinese speaking applicants, that are currently living in a less developed country.

“We offer 4 flexible no-interest payment plans for admission during the pre-launch period,” said Dr Augustine Chow, Coach Training Services of ICA China.  Please pass this information, along with the details of our Special Tuition Waiver offer, to your friends and clients, who may benefit from the new ICA CPCP offers.  For details, please direct referrals or questions to augustine.chow@icoachacademy.com
