With students calling in from almost 70 countries, the following tips are beneficial for the entire class and the teleclass leader, as well as the individual student.
When participating in a teleclass:
-Be in a quiet place, away from distractions so you can fully listen to and participate in the class.
-Call from a landline phone when possible. Limit the use of mobile phones, as these can make the lines unstable.
-If you have noise in the background, as a courtesy to your classmates, press the 6 key on your phone to mute your line. When you want to speak, you can press the 6 key again to unmute your line.
-When sharing, begin by stating your name, ie, “This is ____.”
-Take notes. It is an excellent technique to focus your mind and keep you fully present in the class.
-Keep your microphone far enough from your mouth so that your breathing is not heard by other callers, yet close enough that everyone can easily hear you (practice this with your peer coach or buddy to see what the right distance is).
-Make a point of sharing at least once in a teleclass. It is valuable for others to hear your wisdom, and it will help you to become a part of the ICA community.
