[ # ] Launching Communities of Practice
November 23rd, 2006 under Assessment, Teleclasses, [STUDENT ADMIN]

We are excited to announce that, as of the 4th of December 2006, Communities of Practice will be introduced into the Certified Professional Coach Program (CPCP).

Communities of Practice are niche-specific networks designed to develop the practical side of your coaching. We are launching with the following Communities of Practice and we anticipate to expand into further niches over the next 12 months.

· Life Coaching Community (for life coaches, personal coaches, wellness coaches etc)

· Business Coaching Community (for small business coaches, SME coaches)

· Career Coaching Community (for career coaches, transition coaches, retirement coaches etc)

· Executive Coaching Community (for corporate coaches, executive coaches, management coaches etc)

· Spiritual Coaching Community (for spiritual coaches, well being coaches, life / work/balance coaches etc)

Every member of the ICA community will belong to at least one Community of Practice (with existing students being extended access to all five). Each Community of Practice will include the following:

Case Studies | Coaching Practicum | Resources | Forum (in Discussion board)

This means that Coaching Practicum, as it is shown on the calendar now, will be changing. It is no longer a stand alone course and instead, coaching practicum classes will be offered within each Community of Practice niche. So, in addition to attending General Coaching Practicum teleclasses, you now also have the option to attend Coaching Practicum teleclasses specific to the areas of Life Coaching, Business Coaching, Career Coaching, Executive Coaching and Spiritual Coaching. A time option for General Coaching Practicum teleclasses will also be available.

For information on the schedule for Coaching Practicum, please click on http://our.calendars.net/ica/ptcp/d01/12/2006?display=M&style=B&positioning=A

An information call has been scheduled to explain this further. The details are

Thursday, 30th November @ 5pm NYEST

Bridge: +1 712 432 3000, Access code: 850949

This call will be recorded and the audio will be available for all those that are unable to attend.

Thanks for adding this to the program. Seeing and being involved in coaching more specific to our niches will aid in honing our skills.

The calendar doesn’t show a Coaching Practicum for the Executive Coaching community - is that in the works?

I notice the connection between Sherry’s words and the article text:

“… you now also have the option to attend …”

So, I wonder what the thinking was in writing “now” in the blog entry?

HI ,

I am not entirely sure what you mean. Previously, all coaching practicum classes where general, but now they have been seperated into niches.

Does that answer your query?

Hi Sally,

I am also wondering if one can join multiple CoP as we may not have found our niche as yet or decide to have a primary and secondary focus area.

Thanks,
Felicia

Hi Felicia,

Yes, current students may join multiple CoP’s. That is a great idea!

Love and Great Joy,

Karen

Could I get a brief explanation on what Spiritual Coaching is, in particular how it differs from Life Coaching. As I read through the materials on the ICA site, and the brief description in the blog above, I had difficulty understanding how these two CoPs differ.

Many thanks,

Leon

Hi Leon,

Sorry for the delay in response. I took some time of rest over break and am just getting back to everything!

Hopefully, you have logged into the two online communities which can be found on the front page of the learnsite and looked at the resources and case studies, and seen the differentiation.

If you have any further questions, send me an email to karen@icoachacademy.com and I will be glad to further clarify.

Love and Great Joy,

Karen
