[ # ] Assessment Update
July 11th, 2007 under Assessment, [TRAINING UPDATES]

The training team often receive questions about the best time to complete assignments. Many people find that leaving them to the very end of the program puts them into a last minute rush before graduation. Our advice is always to stagger your assessment tasks throughout the program as much as possible. There are some activities, such as your self assessment, that can’t be finished until the end of the program but many can be done before then and handed in as soon as they are completed. For example, the research paper can be done at any time. If you come across an interesting area of study and reflection, or you have a coaching experience that could become a case study, why not jump into the research paper then and there. You will gain a great deal more from the process if you give the ideas time to percolate. Similarly, your coaching model can be completed and handed in as soon as you have completed the coaching model module of the program. This is a good one to get out of the way early.  It doesn’t mean that your coaching model is then “carved in stone”. On the contrary, many professional coaches tinker with their models throughout their career. You will benefit from the feedback of your assessor to take your model up to the next level for use in your business. Your power tool can be completed as soon as you have done enough Power Tools classes to get the idea. A good Power Tool will usually come to you out of nowhere, when you are going for a walk or taking a shower.  That’s the time to write it up and hand it in (get out of the shower first though (-; ) Learning is a journey and assessment is designed to provide structure and support on your journey. Completing your assessment as you go is a great way to leverage and maximise your learning.
