ICA | CoP Updates |
| February 21st, 2010 under Uncategorized. [ Comments: none ]
|
|
We are always looking for creative ways to improve our CoP teleclasses - bringing new niches, leaders, and approaches while using our resources and talents efficiently. Toward that end, we are offering one Career CoP per week led by Joanne Waldman. We’d like to thank Anouschka van den Bosch for her wonderful leadership in our Career CoP teleclasses and we look forward to engaging both her enthusiasm and expertise in the near future. Anouschka’s last class will be on Thursday Feb 25.
We also are changing the Sales CoP to better reflect the intention of this series which is to support those students with an interest in the Sales Coach niche. We recognize Mike Francis for his amazing and generous support of our students and look forward to partnering with him as we launch the Lobii site. Mike’s last class will be March 8.
Finally, we will be bringing back the Small Business CoP so stay tuned for more information!

If you like to use Facebook for all the fun things it offers, then be sure to become a fan of ICA. You can find our Facebook Community at: icoachacademy
Currently we have close to 400 fans worldwide, comprised of our students, graduates, staff and friends. We’d like to keep growing out community and offer this medium as a place to meet, socialize, share information on coaching, and extend the learning and good vibes coming out of our teleclasses!
It’s a great place to catch up with ICA doings, meet fellow students and to put yourself out there. Community Manager, Kurt Stewart and Learning Leader Isabelle King are the driving force behind bringing our ICA community together in Facebook, and they would love to hear from you.
Kurt has recently started a movement to help students connect up with each other in their various cities and regions around the world. The aim is to keep the energy flowing outside the “virtual” classrooms and meet in the “real” world. And we’d like you to take a group photo too so we can post it to the Facebook Fanpage.
If you would like to get together with fellow students, have a look through our Facebook wall posts for people in your own area. And if you don’t see anyone near you, then feel free to start up a group to meet in your town. If you organize it, we’d be hapy to support you by creating and event in our Fanpage.
So come on and join the party - let’s keep connecting and building our amazing global community!

Chinese New Year is Here! |
| February 12th, 2010 under General Information, Newsworthy Events, [COMMUNITY]. [ Comments: none ]
|
|
One of our Chinese program students, James Huang in Beijing posted his couplet to the Chinese discussion board sending his New Year’s wishes to all students.
看今朝学友勤奋挥汗如雨分享交流迎金虎
盼明日教练潇洒身体力行守德奉智为客户
真诚真相
“Today peers study coaching together, sweating and working diligently to welcome the Year of the Tiger; tomorrow, professional coaches, practising what we preach, nobly walking our talk, ethically, with integrity for our clients”
Sincerity, Authenticity, and Truth
We invite all of our students to create your own and post them to the English discussion board as well.
Spring Festival couplets, (春联, chūnlián) refer to antithetical couplets written on scrolls which convey people’s wishes for peace, fortune and good luck with concise and matching words.
Before the Spring Festival arrives, Chinese people will paste all their door panels with the couplets, highlighting Chinese calligraphy with black characters on red paper. Chinese have always preferred the color red, as it stands for passion and good fortune. Personally, I think the colors for Spring Festival couplets - red and black - classically beautiful.
The content of the couplets varies from house owners’ wishes for a bright future to good luck for the year. Also, pictures of the god of doors and wealth will be posted on front doors to ward off evil spirits and welcome peace and abundance.
The custom of writing couplets on peach panels started in the Tang dynasty (618-907), and became popular in the Song dynasty (960-1279). The couplets earned their official name from Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor who began the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and had become a form of art by the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
People used to paste couplets on doorposts, door panels and lintel, as well as on furniture and screen wall. In the courtyard they had “Spring sunshine bright.” In the living room they had “Graceful friends around,” “Treasures fill the home” and “Wishes for good fortune.” Even over the bed they pasted “Bliss of health.” Writing the couplets was in fact a kind of competition in folk wisdom and calligraphy attended by every family. Nowadays, however, few people write their own couplets, with plenty of choices offered in shops.
Our Chinese Manager, Pin Hsuan Chen invites us to create our own couplets. Pin says you will have an enjoyable soul connection when you are being immersed in the poetry couplet creation!
We would love you to take some time to reflect on your own spirit and what you might want to express in a couplet.
Please post your couplet on the discussion board under the Cafe and Social Area, the ‘thought or saying of the week’ section.
Enjoy everyone! and Xin nian kuai le — Happy New Year!

ICA | Would you like to be a student buddy? |
| February 2nd, 2010 under ICA Volunteer. [ Comments: none ]
|
|
Student buddies are highly valued members of the ICA student community, who generously donate their time in assisting newbies with finding their way within and around the ICA community. As students that have already been with ICA for some time would know, this can sometimes be a little daunting to begin with. Being a buddy could involve sharing first hand experiences, or assisting new students to connect with their online community.
Whilst being a buddy does involve a time commitment, it is very flexible and should only involve a few hours a month. Students wishing to become a part of our wonderful buddy team, should be familiar with the ICA environment, and be willing to support our new students.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a buddy, or if you would like to become a valued member of our ‘Buddy Team’, please contact Jamee Tenzer at jamee.tenzer@icoachacademy.com
